United colors of Gremlins

For a while I 've been thinking about doing a lot of Gremlins in all kinds of kooky shapes and colors. I think I've spent about 3 weekends trying to come out with crazy looking characters but I'm sad to say I have just not ben inspired lately, so I decided to do a few color variations so I can use them on the characters when they're done.

I posted this one on my Facebook and a fellow Graphic Designer gave me a hard time for using the word "Yellow-ish", so I decided to leave it exactly like that--I think he should be thankful I didn't call the one on the top right corner "Orangey".

Spacin' out

For this piece, I wanted to create a character from a 60's style, fictitious Saturday morning cartoon show. Lordo is the second in command of an explorer spaceship; he has the head of a mushroom -and smells like one, too. Lordo is the brains of a crew that hardly ever follows his instructions,

This webcomic project has been dormant for quite a while but I hope to go back to it soon.

At the movies...

I got a kick out of this Tropic Thunder caricature. I have to admit I have not seen the movie yet but I'm a big fan of Robert Downey Junior and from the trailers I've seen, I'm sure he did one heck of a job in this movie.

I think the Dark Knight was a great film and was very excited when HD Review asked me to do this spot illustration for them. I think I spent more time looking for bats online than anything else.
Good times, good times...

Backgrounds

Although I don't usually advertise my background design skills, I thought I'd do it this time around since I've recently worked on more than a few.
Thank you, City Rythm Creative for the opportunity. See you guys real soon!

The Pixel Creatures bunch

Mutant Venus Flytrap

As a monster-loving child growing up in the 80's, I found Little Shop of Horrors a wonderful source of inspiration. It's been a long time and I still do. There were so many things about that movie that made an impression in my work. The music, the characters (who can forget Steve Martin's interpretation of "Dentist!"?) and of course, good ol' Audrey II.

I'll get you, my pretty....

Yep. It's that time of year again, folks!
Cold weather, hot chocolate, crowded shopping malls and lots and lots of Christmas specials.
While watching T.V. the other day, I got excited when I saw the first "Wizard of Oz" promo for the season on TBS. Yet one more sign that the winter's coming...
So excited, in fact, that I thought I would do my own rendition of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Space Cadet

(sigh) Yup, I know... dream on, kiddo....
Ok the first one who guesses which Sci Fi hero used to own this ray gun will get a Cocomalt premium. My treat.

Stretch Armstrong

One of the coolest toys of the 70's. -I wasn't there yet, but that's what I've been told.

Flat Top Jones

Here's one of the best characters from Dick Tracy's rogue gallery: Flat Top. Although the movie was not true to the cannon, I still get a kick out of it every time I watch it. I loved the photography and make-up... plus it takes me back to my childhood.
What else can I say?

EGON SPENGLER: Freight Features

One of the coolest action figures from my Real Ghostbusters collection. Without a doubt, Egon was the brains of the team.
The only thing that sucked about playing with it is that the tie was thin and easy to break --which is probably no big deal compared to Winston, whose leg would fall off after a couple of squeezes. Oh well...
Who you gonna call?

Bugs from outer space.

Yet another one of my collectible gum cards. This is a character from a Sci-Fi web comic that will hopefully see the light of day in the near future.

Enjoy!

Ahhh the 50's...

Who you gonna call?

I have always been a huge fan of the Ghostbusters. I've watched the first movie hundreds of times and I don't think I ever missed a single episode of the RGB cartoons back in the day.
Needless to say I was more than happy when I got this assignment from High Definition Review earlier this year.
I bought the XBox 360 videogame a few weeks ago when it came out and haven't had enough spare time to finish it just yet.

This is a good year for Ghostheads like me with the BluRay movie release, the videogame, the Time Life collection and now the new Mattel "action" figures. I haven't felt this good since I was 10. I hear they're working on a script for the third movie and I hope they do a good job with it... lots of us have been waiting for a long time now.

Why so serious?

Hey everybody!
I did this one for my friends at High Definition Review magazine a little while ago. I think about a couple of months before Heath Ledger passed away.
A few years back when the news came out about Heath playing the part of the Joker I was extremely upset. To be honest, I didn't think the guy would be able to pull it off.
Boy, was I wrong. The guy was definitely the Best Joker Tinseltown has ever had to offer. Too bad we won't be seeing him again in any sequel.
